Mike McGinnis
Mike is an experienced hockey professional with a reputation for his expertise in player development, coaching, and hockey education. As the owner and operator of Norcan Hockey, Mike has built a platform that serves athletes and coaches worldwide, providing resources designed to elevate skill levels and enhance hockey performance.
With a background that spans both playing and coaching, Mike brings a wealth of experience to his work. He played at the Midget AAA and Junior levels in Canada before transitioning into coaching in 2001. Since then, he has had a significant impact on players & coaches across multiple continents. Mike worked directly with ~500 coaches and players annually while serving as Manager of Player Development with Hockey Alberta from 2016-2025. Often reaching over 1 million views per month on social media platforms, his ability to articulate the game is a staple in the hockey community.
One of his current roles includes serving as a regional scout for the Canmore Eagles Hockey Club, where he is focused on identifying emerging talent.
Mike is a Hockey Canada Certified skills instructor, specializing in technical development. His innovative training methods and ability to create clarity from complexity have helped him build a career in the hockey industry. Mike imparts his expertise to athletes across various age groups, emphasizing the fundamentals of hockey sense and skill execution.
In addition to his work on the ice, Mike has shared his insights and knowledge at international coaching conferences, including The Coaches Site Live in Ann Arbor at the University of Michigan. There, he has presented on key aspects of hockey, such as "Wall Play & Rim Collections" & “Playing Against the Pinch” to further solidifying his reputation as a thought leader in the hockey community.
Through Norcan Hockey, Mike continues to influence the global hockey landscape, supporting the future of the game for players and coaches around the world. He offers specialized skills training, focusing on enhancing players technical abilities and hockey IQ.
